Living Inventively: Unleash Your Power and Lead with Purpose
Some mornings, I wake up feeling restless, like I’m standing on the edge of possibility, but not quite stepping into it. Does that ever happen to you? I’ve learned that living inventively isn’t just about taking big leaps; it’s about cultivating a daily mindset of growth, creativity, and fearless leadership.
Recently, I completed one of my most challenging adventures yet — cycling 55 miles through the California Alps, climbing 6,500 vertical feet in just five hours. Exhausting, yes. But the feeling of accomplishment, the joy of pushing past my limits, and the clarity I gained that day? Priceless.
That challenge, combined with a quiet moment afterward (sipping wine and binge-watching a series starring Owen Wilson) reminded me of something fundamental: living inventively is a lifelong practice, a way to honor your endless potential.
What Does Living Inventively Mean for Women Leaders?
It starts in your right brain; the creative, intuitive, sensing part of us that dreams, imagines, and feels. Too often, we lead from logic-only, from plans, from lists. To really innovate and grow, we must nurture our creative selves.
Here are some simple ways to ignite your creative spark:
Paint or doodle freely, without judgment
Take a walk in unfamiliar surroundings
Dance, sing, or move your body for fun
Write in a journal without a pre-set goal
Try new foods or explore a new hobby
Sit quietly and listen to your inner voice through meditation
Volunteer or explore new communities and environments
Once your creative energy is stirred, it’s time to activate your strategic left brain; your planning, sequencing, and accountability side. Write down your goals, break them into actionable steps, and share your vision with trusted allies.
However, the real magic happens when you learn to bridge these worlds, moving fluidly between dreaming and doing. When you do, your ideas become reality, and your leadership evolves from reactive to intentional.
Living inventively isn’t a one-time event. It’s a daily, ongoing practice.
It’s about choosing growth again and again. Try new things, embrace discomfort, and expand your belief in your own power. Every challenge, every adventure, underscores the truth: you are more capable, resilient, and inspired than you think.
